County meeting tidbits

April 30th, 2008, 7:55 am · 2 Comments · posted by lmartinez

County Commissioners passed a resolution honoring the works of former Precinct 3 Commissioner James Matz, but it was not a unanimous vote. Precinct 1 Commissioner Sofia C. Benavidez voted against it stating the county shouldn’t honor a person who divided the county. “I don’t believe negativity or divisiveness should be honored,” Benavides said. I’m not sure what the resolution read because it wasn’t included in the packet.

County Commissioners aren’t sure what’s going to happen with the county’s levee enhancement project following the DHS’s announcement that the border fence will be built. County officials had hoped the levee could serve as alternative to the fence.  The bids for the levee project were unsealed on Tuesday and the list did not include Dannenbaum Engineering, which is working on Hidalgo County’s levee enhancement project. Dannenbaum provided engineering services for the BND’s non-existent port bridge.

    Oh wow, where to start?
This is a blog. Blogs usually have some flavor of the author in them. I can see that you are a reporter. That is obvious. Unfortunately it is so obvious that it is all that I can see.

Loosen up and lighten up a bit!

Does it make you angry when a bird poops on your car 10 minutes after you washed it? Are you angry when people you interview outright lie to you? What do you like to eat? Where are some cool places you have been and people you have met while covering Cameron County?

These are some of the things usually found in journalists blogs. They give life and depth to the person behind the distilled facts which make up a news story. I do understand how it can be at the very least difficult to change up the style of writing, especially if you write to make a living,

Cruise some of the other local blogs in the area and let your hair down a bit! Mine probably won’t be your cup of tea, but there are side links to quite a few others in the area that may be more to your liking.

This is a news blog, not the sloppy ramblings about breakfast, bird poop or any number of inane ramblings found on most independent blogs. This writer isn’t trying to be cute. She doesn’t need to make you laugh. She’s presenting topics for discussion, which you “M” seem to have completely missed.

You want somebody to tell you what they had for lunch, you’re probably on the wrong site.

But just to keep you entertained, I had a turkey and swiss on white. There, feel better?
